Most of the survival kits I have seen come in boxes, a bucket, plastic containers, a trash bag, cans and first aid boxes. These kits are good, but I have always preferred mine. My survival kit is inside a backpack. Sounds unusual, you may say, but it works for me.

The main reason why I chose to use a backpack for my survival kit is versatility. Unlike the usual survival kits, I can carry the backpack on my bag, which means that my hands will be free for other tasks. In my opinion, this is important, especially if I will need to travel to for hours in difficult situations. I’d be able to move faster, too.

Backpacks are more durable, too, compared to plastic containers, trash bags or boxes. It does not tear easily. It is lightweight and therefore easier to carry than cans and buckets. In case weather conditions turn rough, backpacks are safe, too, especially if you choose to go with waterproof backpacks.

A waterproof backpack is made of materials that provide protection against moisture and rain. They keep these elements from seeping into the insides of the bag, therefore keeping all your survival essentials dry and safe. Choose waterproof backpacks that are made of friction-free and tear-free materials.

Also, it is important to pay attention to the color of your backpack. Choose a color that can be easily seen even from a distance. This is essential if you want to be recognized by rescuers even in the darkest of night.

Other important survival waterproof backpack features you should look for include comfortable straps that offer good support, a chest strap for added security, multiple pockets or compartments for better segregation of things, water pockets, good quality zippers that do not easily break even when under strain, and a reflector stripe to help make you visible at night.
